My Vision
My goal is to inform and provide a deeper understanding of the valuable process of cord blood banking to the community, and to advocate for more access to public cord blood banking.
Fewer than 200 hospitals in the United States currently participate in public cord blood banking, and from the patients that choose to donate their baby's cord blood, approximately 70% to 90% of the units are discarded, because they do not meet the strict criteria for cell count, volume, or other processing requirements. If more people knew about this and donated their baby’s cord blood, it would increase the number of potentially life-saving blood units that anyone in the world can use. This expresses the need to spread more awareness and education for expectant mothers, families, doctors, and hospitals.
Public cord blood donations will further advance the profile and importance of continuing and accelerating stem cell therapy research, giving momentum and hope to future investments towards cures and other health related benefits.
